Activities, Lists and Areas
Life Model organises your life using three simple building blocks:
Activities
Lists
Areas
Together, they transform thousands of individual moments into a model that is easy to understand and explore.
Activities
Activities are the individual moments that make up your life.
Most activities come from your calendar, although you can also create them directly inside CROSSNote.
Examples include:
Morning routine
Team meeting
Gym session
Dinner with friends
Dentist appointment
Every activity represents something that happened during a specific period of time.
Activities are the foundation of your Life Model.
Lists
Lists group together activities that share a similar purpose.
Instead of analysing hundreds of individual activities separately, Life Model first organises them into meaningful groups.
For example, your Health area might contain lists such as:
Exercise
Nutrition
Recovery
Medical
As your activities accumulate over time, these lists begin to describe the different parts of your daily life.
Lists are completely yours.
You can rename them, reorganise them, delete them or create new ones whenever you want.
Areas
Areas represent the broader dimensions of your life.
Each list belongs to one area.
Examples include:
Work
Health
Family
Personal Growth
Home
Leisure
By grouping related lists together, areas provide a higher-level view of where your time goes over weeks, months and years.
Like lists, areas can also be customised to reflect the way you organise your own life.
Automatic classification
Whenever a new activity appears, CROSSNote attempts to understand what it is about and automatically places it into the most appropriate list.
To do this, it analyses:
the activity title
additional notes or descriptions (when available)
the semantic meaning of every list you have created
Rather than relying on simple keywords, CROSSNote tries to understand the overall meaning of each activity.
Learning your organisation
Every list contains a semantic description that defines the kinds of activities it represents.
When you rename a list or update its description, CROSSNote automatically updates its understanding of that list.
This means your Life Model gradually adapts to the way you organise your life.
The more accurately your lists describe their purpose, the more accurately future activities can be classified.
When an activity cannot be classified
Sometimes an activity doesn’t clearly belong to any existing list.
In those cases, it remains Unassigned until you decide where it belongs.
You can classify it manually at any time, or let CROSSNote classify it automatically when that feature is available.
Every correction helps improve the accuracy of your Life Model.
A model that grows with you
The areas and lists created during the initial setup are only a starting point.
As your priorities change, your organisation can change too.
Your Life Model is not fixed.
It evolves together with your life.
In summary
Activities capture what you do.
Lists give those activities meaning.
Areas reveal how your life evolves over time.
